Nintendo 3DS Handheld Console - Discover A New Dimension In Gaming
The
Nintendo 3DS Handheld Console takes gaming to an entirely new dimension
with groundbreaking 3D gaming for the first time, without the need for special
glasses or accessories.
If you're familiar with either a Nintendo , DSi, DS XL or DS Lite you should feel right at home with the 3DS as it has the same clamshell design as they do which measures 2.9" x 5.3" x 0.8" closed and weighs about 8 ounces and The Nintendo 3DS is now available in three colours choices, Aqua Blue, Cosmos Black and Metalic Red. On the front edge of the lid you will see two lenses - more about those shortly.
OK. Now let's lift the lid and see what's inside (If you're in a hurry, check out the 3DS virtual video tour below).
The first thing you'll see when you open the 3DS console are two LCD display screens one on the other side of the lid (upper screen) and one on the base (lower screen), layout as follows:
Upper Screen: A 3.53" display (3.02" wide x 1.81" high) with 800 x 240 pixel resolution alocating 400 pixels to each eye which enables 3D viewing. This gives objects within the gameworld a feeling of space and depth that extends far into the back of the screen vastly increasing the ability to see the position of characters and obstacles in compatible games.
Lower Screen: A 3.02" display (2.42" wide x 1.81" high) with 320 x 240 pixel resolution featuring Nintendo's touchscreen technology
Both displays are capable of displaying approximately 16.77 million colors.

3D Depth Slider: On the right-hand side of the 3DS console
you will find a 3D depth slider, this allows you to adjust the depth of
the 3D by degrees to find the most comfortable image viewing depth, or the
3D can be turned off completely leaving a bright, crisp 2D display.
Motion Sensor and Gyro Sensor: The Nintendo 3DS has a built in a Motion Sensor and Gyro Sensor combination which together provide real-time motion and tilt - your 3DS games respond instantly whether you're twisting the device side to side, or moving it up and down.
Control Buttons: As with previous DS models the Nintendo 3DS retains most of the same control buttons which are four buttons (A,B,X,Y) arranged in diamond formation to the top right of the lower screen, Nintendo's cross shaped direction control pad is sited on the lower left. Above the cross control is a new white analogue stick called the Circle Pad Analogue Control, which provides for precision movement in 3D game worlds.
Three Cameras: The Nintendo 3DS has two stereoscopic cameras at the top of the lid facing out that can be used to take 3D photos (which you can adjust with the depth settings) and a single camera above the 3D display on the inside of the console lid. All the cameras feature 640 x 480 resolutions with single focus lenses with an active pixel count of approximately 300,000.
Memory: Every Nintendo 3DS system comes with a 2Gb SD memory card which slots into the left hand side of the console. You can use this SD memory card to store your 3D photos, sound recordings created on the Nintendo 3DS system and music (compatible file formats are MP3 and AAC) from your PC. You can also use it to store games downloaded from the Nintendo eShop. The Nintendo 3DS system has SDHC card compatibility to expand the size your console's memory storage even further.
Charging Cradle: The 3DS is packaged with its own Charging Cradle in which you can dock your Nintendo 3DS system whenever you are not using it to keep it powered up (Battery life is about three hours when in play).

Nintendo 3DS - Other Key Features
Adjustable Stylus: The adjustable Nintendo 3DS Stylus takes the idea of touch control to a new and even more user-friendly level. Once removed from the holder, the stylus length can be adjusted to your liking with a simple push or pull. Now anyone can achieve the optimum level of comfort while playing games that use the stylus.
Backwords Compatibility: With backwards compatibility, existing Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games will be displayed in 2D graphics and look and play just as well on the Nintendo 3DS. (Please Note: Nintendo DS games that use accessories in the Game Boy Advance slot of the Nintendo DS system are not compatible with the Nintendo 3DS system).
StreetPass: Nintendo 3DS brings fellow players together in exciting new ways with StreetPass communication. Set your Nintendo 3DS to Sleep Mode and carry it with you wherever you go to exchange game data like Mii characters, high scores, and custom characters with other users you pass on the street. You control what data you exchange and you can exchange data for multiple games at once, making virtual connections with real world people you encounter in your daily life.
SpotPass: A feature that lets Nintendo 3DS detect wireless hotspots or wireless LAN access points and obtain information, game data, free software, videos and so on for players even when the system is in sleep mode.
Wireless Communications: Nintendo 3DS utilises a frequency of 2.4 GHz, enabling local wireless communication among multiple Nintendo 3DS systems for game play and StreetPass, as well as access to the Internet through wireless LAN access points (supports IEEE802.11 b/g with the WPA/WPA2 security feature). Recommended distance of wireless communication is within 98.4 feet. This can be shorter depending on the environmental situation.
Augmented Reality (AR) Cards: The 3DS console comes packed with six AR Cards. Launch the built-in AR Games™ application and place an AR Card on a flat surface, and when the two outer cameras are pointed at the cards, they read the cards and superimpose images and animations onto the scene. The mini game for the card appears on a background captured by the camera. The possibilities are endless, so experiment and have fun!
If you have gamers in your family, the Nintendo 3DS will prove a great gift idea for them this Christmas.
